JTC interviews the High Commissioner for Cyprus in the UK

The Jubilee Time Capsule has interviewed the High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus in the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mr Alexandros Zenon.

The High Commissioner’s previous postings include Rome, Vienna, Paris, The Netherlands and two years as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cyprus (2006-2008) before being posted as the High Commissioner for Cyprus in the UK in 2008.

When asked to talk about a memorable date for the Jubilee Time Capsule the High Commissioner chose to talk about three important dates in the history of the Republic of Cyprus: the proclamation of the indpendence of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and Cyprus acceding to the European Union in 2004.

On a personal note His Excellency remembers growing up during Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as he was born in 1953; the year of The Queen’s Coronation.  His Excellency also remembers The Queen’s visit to Cyprus for the 1993 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (21st – 25th October 1993).
