Children’s author Michelle Paver remembers swimming with killer whales

The Jubilee Time Capsule team recently caught up with Michelle Paver, author of the hugely successful children’s series Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.

Michelle won the 2010 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize for Ghost Hunter, the sixth book in her Ancient Darkness series, and has also written several other books including Dark Matter.  Her next series of children’s books, Gods and Warriors, is set to be published in 2012.

When asked to choose a date for the Jubilee Time Capsule Michelle chose to talk about November 2005.  Michelle recalls that at this time she was writing The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness and that one of the books involved her hero, Torak, having an encounter with killer whales.  Michelle explains that she wanted to experience this so that she could really bring the story to life for her readers.

In the interview Michelle talks about travelling to a fjord off the coast of northern arctic Norway and swimming with the killer whales there.  To watch the interview click here.
